Maple class are learning about the weather this term and during their DT lessons have been designing their own windmill. We investigated the different parts of a windmill and learned about the structure, the axle, the mechanisms for the moving parts and the joining methods we would use.
We discussed the various materials and tools to make our design successful, then explored patterns and colours to decorate the parts and recorded our observations in our sketchbooks. Today we used acrylic paints and markers to decorate the windmill parts using our pattern designs. We used fine paintbrushes to show the patterns and colours. In the next lesson we will join the parts, check that the windmill sails can turn, all the parts are decorated, before evaluating the success of our simple structure.
