As part of their Ancient Egyptian unit this term, Larch class have been learning about the history of Canopic jars and designing their own, ready to make and decorate. We designed our own Canopic jar in our sketchbooks, explored patterns and the Egyptian artist Awaa Awad, and then created our armatures.
Today we used modroc for the final layer, dipping our strips into water for a few seconds, squeezing out any excess water before layering the strips over all sections of the jar. We were careful to smooth the modroc, wrapping tightly, trying hard to ensure there were no bumps and all areas were covered. It was very messy, but great fun!
In the next lesson, we will begin to add our decorations and designs. Keep a lookout for the next post.
