As part of their Ancient Egyptian unit this term, Larch class have been learning about the history of Canopic jars and designing their own ready to make and decorate. In the last lesson, we created our armatures, choosing the Canopic jar of our choice. Look at all the fantastic shapes we made! Today, we investigated and explored Egyptian patterns and colours, in preparation for our Canopic jar decorations.
We looked at the Egyptian artist Alaa Awad who is famous for his vibrant paintings and murals. The essence of his paintings honours Egypt’s past and present, and yet is uniquely his own contemporary style. Alaa Awad chooses to paint with a brush and uses acrylic paints rather than using stencils and spray paints, and we used our observational skills to draw our own interpretation of his work, alongside with the patterns and colours of our choice.
