Chestnut class have been learning about Andy Warhol and the pop art movement this term. We learnt about the life, work, and early techniques of Warhol and the impact of popular culture on art and society during that era. We studied a Warhol self-portrait and other works of art, to enable us to plan and create our own self-portraits inspired by Warhol and recorded these observations and ideas in our sketchbooks.
We explored what a self-portrait is and how to create one by making careful observations. We also explored the use of colour and style to create a self-portrait using Andy Warhol’s techniques and oil pastels. Today, we looked Warhol’s famous soup can image and challenged ourselves to design our own can label. We tested different colour combinations and thought about the flavour of soup we were designing a label for.
What beautiful, vibrant pop art you have created Chestnut class!
