English – Hidden Figures

Upper Keystage 2 classes have been reading a book entitled “Hidden Figures”, written by Margot Lee Shetterly, which follows the true story of these three women, who all began their journey working at NASA as a part of the West Computers, a segregated group of African American women hired to process aeronautic data in the Space Race era.

The book was later adapted into a movie, which highlights the experiences of three specific women: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, and their stories to an even larger audience. These women led extraordinary lives.

The learning objective for each class is to use a range of noun phrases to write about a character. In the gallery below, we can see some of the words used such as:
