Oak Class Art – Greece

We are back in the art block and today we join Oak class. Todays art topic is Ancient Greece and the children are looking at the many styles, shapes and patterns that the Greeks are famous for when designing pots, vases and urns.

The lesson started with the children creating drawings of pots and vases based on some designs offered on the white board. Once the drawings are complete, the children then move onto painting their drawings with a water colour underlay in say gold, copper, red and silver colours.

Finally, the children will cover the painted area (once dried) with a black crayon overlay. Then the children will scrape the black away in certain areas and lines to reveal the colour beneath. This process is called etching.

We took some pictures of the children today in the early stage of drawing their pots and vases, which can be seen in the gallery below.
